I had an opportunity to speak with Mrs. Gardner, the Past Mayor of Eatonville about her vision for District 7. My goal is to speak with as many candidates as possible. When I last checked there were fifteen candidates for the District 7 Election. The August election is an important moment in our community. I've met at least eight of the candidates. However, having a sit down conversation about their platform is the best way to ensure that they are addressing the needs and expectations that you may have. I'm glad that I spoke with Mrs. Gardner. The conversation cleared up some questions that I had. I suggest that you reach out and schedule your own conversation with the candidates. Don't wait until they are elected to try and make the connection. Show up at the Kickoff events. I've attended three Kickoff events so far. Take note of their supporters and volunteers. Week two of the Leadership Exchange Capacity Building Seminar was March 25 with Dr. Lua Hancock facilitating "Strategic Planning for Nonprofits" and Yvette Anderson facilitating "Financial Management for Nonprofits." The Seminar has been everything that I imagined it to be. My goal for this nonprofit seminar was to design an effective curriculum that was affordable for our grassroots nonprofit organizations. I'm grateful for everyone that helped make the vision a reality especially the nonprofit organizations that are class participants. I immediately remembered how much fun it was chaperoning the event last year. Sheeler really made sure that every student that wanted to attend was able to attend. They even gave the kids a gift card to purchase a meal. Believe it or not Sheeler has students from Eatonville. If you have an opportunity, stop in for a tour of the school. "Women's History Month! Women leaders in the community don’t just serve, they uplift, advocate, and create pathways for others to rise." In honor of Women's History Month we hosted the Women Change Maker's Panel Discussion. Eight women panelists shared their experiences, passion, knowledge and dedication to the work they do in their communities. Saturday's session was amazing. Recently Eatonville Chamber members @theancientolive invited us to tour @feedhopenow Second Harvest of Central Florida on Mercy Drive. The tour was very enlightening. I learned a lot about the different ways Second Harvest impacts our community. They work with organizations that you may not know about. Special dietary needs, school programs, culinary training, catering, backpack food initiatives, supplying diapers, toiletries and many other basic needs to name a few things that Second Harvest does for our community. In the video you will notice tons of banana boxes. The boxes are not filled with bananas. The boxes are for storage. FYI banana boxes can hold up to 40 lbs. Second Harvest also concentrates on sustainability wherever possible. We stepped into the huge freezer for a few seconds. Throughout the tour we noticed a lot of cleaning and

The Black History Speaks Series features knowledge and insight from all aspects of African American History. The keynote speaker is Dr. Neil Vaz. Dr. Vaz is a history professor at Seminole State College. He received his Master's Degree in African History from Howard University, and PhD in African Diaspora history from Howard as well. His research includes Afro-American resistance to enslavement throughout the African diaspora. Recently, he started a Pod-Cast with longtime friend Trent Tomengo called “We Who Are Dark. I'm excited to have him join our Black History Speaks Series again this year. I've known Dr. Vaz for a number of years. He's very knowledgeable and has been very supportive of the Eatonville Chamber of Commerce. He is a longtime member of our Advisory Board. The mission for the 2026 Black Business Expo was to shine a spotlight on and bring awareness to Black Businesses and those who support black & marginalized communities in the Central Florida area and beyond. The 2026 Black Business Expo offered Eatonville Chamber and The Community Nook a great opportunity to create visibility and foster lasting connections with AAA; both internally and externally. Close to 50 AAA employees visited the Business Expo. The event was not open to the public. We offered two free raffles along with free Black History swag for anyone that stopped by our table. The SOUL sponsors had a few raffle prizes also. There were quite a few people that signed up for volunteer information. We stepped away from our offices yesterday for a Field Trip to the @ahmaitland to see the Situated Body, featuring the work of Jacobo Alonso. We also wanted to see the progress of the preservation project to save the large, beautiful cross inside the chapel as well as the new construction project that's underway. We were not disappointed. I was very happy to see a lot of new landscaping projects were completed. I reached out to @annaforflorida (State Representative Eskamani) four years ago to partner with the Eatonville Chamber for a Day of Service Community Cleanup. I believed the cleanup might make a great opportunity for networking. I also believed that it could introduce our community members to her and her team. Due to recently being included in her district she was unknown to a lot of the Eatonville residents. The first year we chose the Catalina Quad. As luck would have it State Representative Anna V. Eskamani has become a great resource for the Eatonville community. She has kept her word and been very present in our community. She has not only attended every cleanup but also included other elected officials in the event. I'm very grateful that her office has continued promoting and supporting the annual cleanup. The breakfast honored the legacy of the Orlando Civil Rights Pioneer. Congratulations Mr. Tony Jenkins, the keynote speaker and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. 19 scholarships were awarded today, the largest in the event's history.
